Dead Space Remake Chapter 7: Leviathan Rematch – Strategy and Survival
The Dead Space Remake masterfully reimagines the iconic horrors of the USG Ishimura, and no encounter embodies this terrifying revival better than the Chapter 7 rematch against the Leviathan. This gargantuan, pulsating Necromorph, housed within the Hydroponics Deck's immense cultivation chamber, is more than a simple boss fight; it's a grueling test of resource management, spatial awareness, and calm under pressure. The remake elevates this classic confrontation with enhanced visuals, more dynamic gameplay, and a far more aggressive and intelligent adversary. This guide provides a comprehensive strategy to dissect the beast efficiently and emerge victorious.
Understanding the Beast: Leviathan 2.0
The core mechanics of the fight remain familiar to veterans: you must destroy three bulbous, yellowish-orange sacs on the creature's body while avoiding its devastating attacks. However, the remake introduces critical changes that demand a new level of respect.
First, the Leviathan is more active. Its tentacles lash out with greater frequency and its projectile vomit attacks are more accurately aimed. The arena itself feels more claustrophobic and hazardous, with the acidic flood below posing a constant threat. The creature also utilizes its environment more, often obscuring the weak points with tentacles or its own shifting mass, forcing you to wait for clear shots.
Second, the sound design and visual cues are both a blessing and a curse. The 3D audio engine is crucial for hearing the sizzle of an incoming acid globule from behind, but the constant, thunderous roars and the visceral squelching of the creature's movements are psychologically draining, designed to make you panic and waste precious ammunition.
Preparation is Half the Battle: Loadout and Gear
Do not enter the cultivation chamber unprepared. Backtrack to a Bench and a Store if necessary.
- Primary Weapon: The Plasma Cutter is your best friend. Its high precision is indispensable for targeting the distant weak points. Fully upgrade its Damage and Capacity. The Pulse Rifle can be a decent secondary for its rate of fire, but its lack of precision against small, moving targets makes it less effective. The Line Gun is powerful but its slow rate of fire can be punishing if you miss.
- Essential Tool: The Contact Beam is arguably the secret weapon of this fight. Its alt-fire mode, which creates a powerful stasis field, can temporarily freeze the Leviathan's attacking tentacles, providing you with crucial breathing room. Its primary fire also deals massive damage to the sacs.
- Upgrades: Prioritize Stasis Energy and Duration upgrades. You will be using Stasis constantly to slow incoming projectiles. Similarly, ensure your RIG has sufficient Health.
- Ammo and Medpacks: Enter the fight with a healthy stockpile of Plasma Energy and Contact Energy. Have at least two Large Medpacks or several Small ones. Sell unused ammo for other weapons to stock up on what you need.
Phase One: The Initial Assault
The fight begins as soon as the door seals. The first weak point is immediately visible on a central tentacle.
- Immediate Action: Do not stand still. Immediately start strafing along the platform's perimeter. The Leviathan will begin its assault with acid globules launched from its smaller maws.
- Destroy the First Sac: Use Stasis on any globules that get too close. They move slowly when affected, giving you time to move. Line up your shot on the first sac and fire with the Plasma Cutter. It should go down with 4-6 well-placed shots.
- Tentacle Management: After destroying the first sac, the Leviathan will become more aggressive, launching two large, spear-like tentacles from the acidic pool to slam onto the platform. These are telegraphed by splashing in the fluid. The game will prompt you to shoot their glowing tips. Do not ignore this. A few shots from the Plasma Cutter will cause them to retreat. Failure to do so will result in a near-instant kill or massive damage.
Phase Two: The Gauntlet
The second and third sacs are higher up and often partially obscured. This is the most challenging part of the encounter.
- Locating the Sacs: The second sac appears on the upper left side of the creature's body. It will often be blocked by waving tentacles. Be patient. Wait for a clear line of sight. Do not waste ammo shooting through tentacles.
- The Acid Rain Attack: The Leviathan will occasionally unleash a barrage of acid globules that blanket the entire platform. This is your cue to constantly run and use Stasis liberally. Slow down the incoming projectiles and navigate through the gaps. Finding a brief safe spot is key.
- Destroying the Second Sac: Use the Contact Beam's alt-fire to freeze the smaller, harassing tentacles near the sac, clearing your shot. Unleash precise Plasma Cutter fire or a single, powerful Contact Beam shot to destroy it.
Phase Three: The Final Blow
The third and final sac is the highest and most difficult to hit.

- Last Stand Aggression: The Leviathan will now use all its attacks in rapid succession. You will face constant acid globules, tentacle slams from the water, and the devastating acid rain. Your movement must be relentless.
- Stasis is Your Lifeline: Your Stasis module is now more valuable than ammo. Use it on everything: incoming projectiles, slamming tentacles, and even the creature's maw to delay its attacks.
- The Killing Shot: The final sac is often retracted. Wait for the moment it inflates and becomes exposed. This is your window. Pour everything you have into it. A fully upgraded Contact Beam shot can take it out in one or two hits. If you miss the window, don't panic. Another will come. Focus solely on survival until it does.
The moment the final sac ruptures, a final cutscene will play, and the beast will be defeated. The rewarding sound of the Leviathan's death throes is matched only by the satisfaction of knowing you've overcome one of the Ishimura's greatest threats through skill, strategy, and iron nerves. Loot the area for well-deserved rewards before moving on to the next chapter of the nightmare.
